CAMDEN, NJ — Catholic schools in the City of Camden will receive long-term support from the newly established Monsignor Robert McDermott Education Fund, a $1 million endowment.
The fund is being launched with $500,000 from Catholic Partnership Schools and $500,000 from The Joseph Fund of Camden, with plans for continued growth in the years ahead, according to a press release from the Joseph Fund of Camden.
The endowment is named in honor of Monsignor Robert “Father Bob” McDermott, who spent nearly five decades of service in Camden until his passing in 2019. Monsignor McDermott dedicated his ministry to creating programs that advanced housing, education, and social services for thousands of families. His vision and compassion strengthened the community and opened doors of opportunity for generations of Camden residents, according to the press release.
The Monsignor Robert McDermott Education Fund will provide tuition and scholarship assistance to students attending Camden’s four parochial elementary schools. By reducing financial barriers, the fund ensures that more children can access a safe, high-quality, faith-based education—a mission that Father Bob championed throughout his life.
Catholic Partnership Schools and The Joseph Fund of Camden believe the endowment will grow significantly over time, becoming a permanent source of support for families seeking a strong educational foundation for their children. In honoring Father Bob’s legacy, the fund continues his lifelong commitment to providing stability, opportunity, and hope to the children of Camden.
